As the frigid winter months approach, it’s time to snuggle up with the cozy comforts that make the cold weather bearable. And what better way to do that than with a Merino wool scarf? This natural fiber is the epitome of comfort and style, providing a level of warmth that synthetic materials just can’t replicate.

The softness of Merino wool is a delight to the senses, like snuggling with a fluffy cloud. And if that’s not enough, it’s also breathable, moisture-wicking, and odor-resistant, making it the perfect choice for winter weather that can’t make up its mind. Whether you’re trudging through a blizzard or cuddled up indoors, Merino wool is there to keep you warm.

And let’s not forget fashion – a Merino wool scarf is the ultimate winter accessory. Its rich colors and textures can elevate any outfit, from a classic pea coat to a casual sweater (Merino wool sweater, of course). You can wrap it tightly around your neck or let it drape effortlessly down your shoulders – the possibilities are endless.

Various Merino Wool Scarves

And with so many possibilities and options, finding your ideal Merino wool scarf may take time. That’s where we come in. At Merino Wool Gear, we are basically drowning in Merino. It’s everywhere. So we know a thing or two about the best Merino wool gear out there – scarves and just about everything else. We’ll narrow down all the choices and give you our top nine picks for the coziest & warmest Merino wool scarves you can get!

Our 9 Favorite Merino Wool Scarves

Icebreaker Merino Waypoint Scarf

Icebreaker Waypoint Scarf Gray

Pros: Ultimate winter comfort | Classic, versatile design | High-quality, sustainable wool

Cons: Pilling to be expected | Pricey

If you refuse to leave the house without a scarf in the winter, the Icebreaker Waypoint is the right scarf for you. The classic Merino wool knit – made with sustainable ZQ Merino wool – will keep you warm and toasty, no matter what the thermometer may say.

And the best part is that this scarf is so soft, like buttery soft. Icebreaker uses an 18.9-micron Merino wool fiber in their yarn. This isn’t the finest fiber they utilize, but it’s an excellent combination of softness and durability. So, you’ll get that same snug feeling every time you toss it on.

Really, I can’t say enough good things about the Waypoint scarf and all Icebreaker gear, for that matter. It’s in my daily winter rotation, and I couldn’t be happier. Give it a try, and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.

Villand Merino Wool Scarf

Pros: Soft yet durable material | Timeless pattern & design | Gift box included

Cons: Hand wash only | Thinner than you may expect

Looking for a more timeless scarf? One that stands out but blends in at the same time? Then, this Villand Merino wool scarf is the right one for you. The plaid pattern – known as Tartan – is a classic style that matches any type of business or professional wear well. Sling it, loop it, tie it, whatever; it’s gonna look good.

But this scarf isn’t just about looks. The extra-fine Merino wool does an extra fine job at keeping you warm. It’s not as thick as you would expect from this type of Merino scarf, but it gets the job done.

Finally, the best part about this scarf is the price! It’s less than half the cost of some higher-end scarves but within the ballpark on quality. So, you’re definitely getting your dime’s worth with the Villand Merino wool scarf. Check it out below!

Minus33 Everyday Knit Infinity Loop Scarf

Minus33 Infinity Loop Scarf White

Pros: Versatile, unique design | Machine washable | Relatively affordable

Cons: Color selection | Manufacturing inconsistencies

I was skeptical about this scarf at first. It’s just a giant fabric loop; how special could it be? But boy, was I wrong. This scarf is superb. For starters, it’s soft. Like, ‘snuggle up with it all day long‘ kind of soft. And it’s warm, perfect for those cold winter days when you need the extra motivation to step out the door.

But the thing I love most about it is how versatile it is. You can wear it as a traditional scarf or double it up and wear it as a head wrap. You can even wear it as a belt! It’s like the Swiss Army Knife of scarves. And since it’s so lightweight (170 gsm), you can adjust the style to the temperature!

Overall, this Minus33 Infinity is warm, versatile, stylish, and surprisingly affordable. It may be our favorite if it came in more than three colors! Minus33can you hear us?

Pendleton Wool Knit Scarf

Pros: One of our favorite gift ideas | Unique patterns & colors | Trusted wool brand

Cons: Colors not as “bright” as they appear | Narrow width

With unique patterns and an ultra-soft feel, the Pendleton Merino wool scarf is our top choice if you want to gift some Merino wool this season. It’s affordable, functional, and fashionable. What more could your loved ones ask for in a gift this holiday?

And this Merino wool scarf is more than just looks. Pendleton has been around for 150 years, and for good reason: they create high-quality products year after year. This stylish wool scarf is a testament to their expertise and longevity.

Still, some users have reported minor issues like color mismatches and a narrower width (only 9″), but I think it comes down to personal preference. In other words, it’s not the scarf; it’s them.

If you want to get a solid gift this holiday season or want to enjoy a fabulous Merino wool scarf all for yourself, Pendleton is the answer. Don’t miss out!

Wool& Luna Jersey Scarf

Wool& Luna Jersey Scarf Red

Pros: Versatile wear (extra width) | Warmth without bulk | Elegant drape

Cons: Length may be too short for some | Limited color availability

One of our favorite Merino wool brands, Wool&, has done it again with the elegant and functional Luna Jersey scarf. The 300-gsm interlocking knit regulated the microclimate around your neck without being too bulky or in the way. Plus, the fringed ends bring the whole look together!

Unlike other Merino wool scarves you’ve seen today, the Luna is not 100% Merino wool. Instead, Wool& uses a blend of 78% Merino wool and 22% nylon for added stretch, recovery, and durability. So, you shouldn’t be too worried if you accidentally snag it on a door frame.

Finally, the Luna scarf isn’t as long as some other scarves. But, it makes up for this lack of length in width. It’s over a foot wider than other scarves, allowing you to drape it as a shawl in the office and wrap it around your neck when you head to your car at the end of the day. There are so many ways to wear it, which one will you choose?

Aran Crafts Irish Cable Knitted Scarf

Pros: The warmest scarf we’ve tried | Traditional cable-knit design | Surprisingly affordable

Cons: Hand wash only | About a foot less length than other options

If all you care about is pure, unadulterated warmth, you’ve found your scarf. This Aran Crafts chunky-knit Merino wool scarf is the epitome of winter comfort. The traditional Irish stitching is supposed to bring good luck and safety. I can’t vouch for that superstition, but it makes sense, considering this scarf is made to keep you safe from the cold. Oh yeah, it’s super affordable, too!

Personally, this scarf isn’t my style; it gives me grandma vibes. But that doesn’t mean it won’t look great in your wardrobe. Plus, it’s the warmest one you’ll find. So, whatever you do, don’t be afraid to wear this scarf with pride. It’s a statement piece that will make you stand apart from the crowd. And who knows, you might even start a new fashion trend.

Allbirds “The Scarf”

Allbird The Scarf Regen Bough

Pros: Extended length for added coverage | Unique color options | Frequent sales & discounts

Cons: Potential for shedding | Expensive (at full price)

Famously known for their Wool Runners (my favorite pair of Merino wool shoes), Allbirds has made a comfy, cozy Merino wool scarf perfect for daily winter wear. The soft ZQ Merino wool feels ever-so smooth against your skin, while the extended length adds extra coverage for however you feel like wrapping up!

And this isn’t just any Merino wool scarf; it’s “The Scarf.” If you’re a mild scarf user, it’s “the scarf” (the only scarf) you’ll need. And with tons of unique color and pattern options, there’s bound to be one that fits your style.

The price is the main downside (other than initial shedding – which is normal). The full price tag isn’t 100% worth it for the quality. Fortunately, Allbirds often have heavy discounts on “The Scarf,” so if you can get it on sale, I’d say it’s worth it.

Mack Weldon Tech Merino Scarf

Mac Weldon Merino Tech Scarf

Pros: Warm, functional texture | Lightweight & packable | Eco-friendly raw materials

Cons: Longterm durability concerns | Color availability

For those on the go or traveling to the office by foot, you need winter gear that can withstand the rigors of your daily commute. And while not generally known for their Merino wool prowess, Mack Weldon has created a scarf that answers the calling. You get the best temperature-regulating with a 50/50 blend of sustainable Merino wool and wood pulp fibers (LENZING™ EcoVero™). As I always say, nature creates the best performance materials.

I particularly like the waffle stitching pattern. Not only does it look unique compared with other Merino wool scarves, but it’s also functional. The waffle structure helps to trap warm air among the fibers and even helps to prevent the scarf from slipping around. And it’s just downright dapper.

If you want to complete the whole look, I’d also opt for the Mack Weldon beanie. Pack them in your EDC bag (they only take a little room) and break them out when needed. Combining the two will make you toasty and stylish all winter!

The Knotty Ones Rib Scarf

Knotty Ones Rib Scarf Gray

Pros: Luxuriously soft | Extended width for added coverage | Handwoven

Cons: Costly | Dry Clean Only

I’m a fashionista, darling. I know a thing or two about style. And let me tell you, the Knotty Ones Merino Wool Ribbed Scarf is a must-have for any fashionable woman’s wardrobe. But what really sets this scarf apart is its unique ribbed texture. This gives the scarf a touch of elegance and sophistication and helps keep it in place all day long. It’s just that luxurious!

Unfortunately, this level of luxury comes at a price: a steep price. The Knotty Ones Rib Scarf is our list’s most expensive Merino wool scarf. But what else would you expect from a lavish scarf handknit by a wool Artisan in Northern Lithuania? Thanks, Mrs. Zina!

Despite the price tag, you’ll look like a million bucks in this scarf. Whether running errands or dressing up for a night out, this scarf will complete your look. Learn more about this scarf and the rest of The Knotty One’s Merino wool collection below!
